I think the next 9 weeks will answer the question.

If he continues to be a decoy primarily, with little actual production (he's averaging 24 yards/game from scrimmage thus far), I could see the Rams insisting on a pay cut or cutting Austin.

If, on the other hand, his usage is increased and he becomes a more significant producer, it might be prudent to keep him for another year.

I do think, by the way, that his inability to field punts this year weighs heavily against him.
