Holt and Bruce caught a ton more passes than Austin ever has. So comparing their fumble rate with his isn't a good example imo.
As far as catching, the NFL has seen many super fast guys that can't catch come and go. On another note, i can't believe we are debating a guy with 200 yards total offense and 1 TD at about the half way point. He is what he is. The Rams have a bunch of weapons now and Austin isn't a big part of the offense anymore.
Percentages are percentages.
3 fumbles on 188 receptions is a smaller percentage than 19 on 920.
Basically that means that if TA had 920 receptions with that percentage he would have 14.6 fumbles, and if Holt had 188 receptions on his percentage he would have 3.9 fumbles.
Actually Holt's fumble percentage went down after his first 3 years. From 99-2001, he had 215 receptions and 7 fumbles, for a percentage of 3.2%. With his percentage, when he has 215 receptions Tavon will fumble 3.8 times, virtually half that of Holt's first 3 years.
Anyway. Add it all up and just means TA did not fumble at a high rate AS A RECEIVER. He did as a returner but not as a receiver.
