Yeah-it was hard to understand my son's choice to not be a fan. For me it was my childhood but for him it was simply his favorite team. The former is for life while the latter is like a marriage: if you wife decides to leave for a better man do you follow her around being a fan of hers or do you move on. Most move on.
I never looked at it like that at all, in fact I've always told people who questioned how I could still love a team that left? I would ask them if their spouse took the kids and moved half way across the country would you stop loving your kids???
That's the way I always looked at it.
