Can't think of a more punitive rule in football. The rule results in the offensive team losing six points, negates the entire effort to move down the field to get there in the first place, rewards the defensive team that just gave up a would-be touchdown with the ball, AND puts them in OK field position. NFL needs to reconsider the severity of this and come up with something more sensible - like putting the ball at the 10 yard-line for the fumbling team or something like that. This killed us yesterday.
