So let me get this straight... If you fumble the ball at the goal line and it goes out of the end zone, of even just touches the pylon, its a TOUCHBACK???
No change of possession before the out-of-bounds...
Not a kick or a punt...
Even though it was last controlled by an offensive player...
Its a TOUCHBACK??? BALL TO THE OTHER TEAM???
That is the most unbelievably stupid rule I have ever heard. If you fumble out of bounds anywhere else on the field, you retain possession unless the other team gains control of the ball prior to the OOB. Why should the end zone be any different? It shouldn't be about where the fumble occurs, it should be about WHO CONTROLLED THE BALL LAST!!!!
Sorry for the "yelling", but I'm pissed. Was fuming about that play for the whole rest of the game. I'm still fuming about it.
Gurley didn't protect the ball. I don't know what led him to get so careless in that situation against a defense like Seattle's, but if he had secured the ball properly, the Rams probably would have won the game.
