Yeah that pass deep in Thier own territory was huge.
I was expecting the conservative call and a punt.
I would have lost the game tucking in my shell.
Thankfully McVay knows what his players are capable of and Woods have worked together enough to connect under pressure like that.
Pretty sweet.
Kinda a dig play or just a simple breaking in route maybe? .
Made me think of Bulger to Bruce a little. ??
Yeah, the seam route to Gurley was thrown perfectly, but to be fair, those are not difficult passes for an NFL QB and a clean pocket. The deep crossing routes (like Ferragamo to Waddy) are a lot tougher because the timing of the pass has to be perfect to hit in stride.
McVays offense is much more QB friendly than a Martz O. It's more like a WCO on steroids, utilizing mismatches by identifying the weakness in pass coverage and exploiting it. I haven't really seen many timing patterns like Martz's offense demanded. Watching the GSOT was a thing of beauty because the QB had to throw in tight windows on deep crossing and out patterns while hitting the receivers in stride.
That being said, I like McVays offense better because he's a strategist and seems to know how to exploit a D's weakness. I'm not saying Martz didn't, but I think McVay is more diverse overall. I would like to see Goff throw a few more deep balls though.
