Patience to what. Every play last year, the defense knew exactly what was happening. One of Gurleys comments about receiving was it is easier to make 1 guy miss than 11. That is what it was last year. 9 in the box and 4 or 5 of them in the back field on most plays. Simply put, when you run, you shouldn't have 11 guys on you right away. There should be space.
What we are seeing now with Goff and Gurley this year is how coaching and players around players make a significant difference.
Greg Robinson elimination and best set of WRs since the greatest show on turf as #2 and #3 reasons why Gurley and Goff went from bad players to good players and in Gurley's case a great player.
We saw the same with Martz in 1999. Everybody played at a much higher level than they had previously. Faulk went from a 4.0 RB to a 5.5 RB and almost doubled his touchdown production. The 3 QBs from the scrap pile to the pro bowl. Guys like Mike Furrey leading the NFC in receptions. Matt Forte increasing his yards per carry.
Creating space and putting players in position to make plays makes all the difference in offense. What McVay does that Martz did so well is make the defense defend side line to side line and also deep (Horizontal and Vertical Space creation for Gurley)
