The way Casserly put it yesterday, you can run outside on Quinn and Barwin and inside on Tree and Barron, and that's a bad combination. Don't know yet how much there is to that.
It is true that they started losing DBs
I am not sure how much of this is personnel (a la Casserly) and how much is time off during the summer plus injuries (Webster, Joyner, Alexander, Quinn, Donald).
It is true it was a mess against IND. The defense was okay against SF--special teams fumbles that made the game seem close.
How far back up can they climb? Interesting question.
It would be ironic wouldn't it if Rams were hoping for another 99 and instead what we got was another 2000.

yeah, there are a lot of things to point to..but Wade is ultimately responsible for fixing it.
our ST did our defense NO help last week with the penalty, muff punt and fumble....there is more then just bad defense sometimes.
not gonna panic yet.
Yes Wade is responsible for fixing it. I thought that went without saying. As in, of course.
But as I say in another post in this thread, in key respects on run defense anyway, they already DID fix part of it (run defense).
And while Wade is responsible for fixing it, he's also no miracle worker, and will not become the only coach in history to overcome personnel issues if that is a big problem.
Good coaches can get mediocre results if the unit has big holes in it.
What you look for is this---could it have been EVEN WORSE with a genuinely bad coordinator?
SF could run against Seattle and then nowhere near as well against the Rams, and meanwhile Washington could run against the Rams but then the Rams slowed the SF running game down.
Seems to me Wade should already be getting some credit for addressing at least some of the issues.
Though again it's too soon to make solid predictions about how much is fixed and how much is not.
