Any chance Goff made a sight adjustment on that play and intentionally threw an 'out' (expecting that Watkins would make the same sight adjustment and run an 'out' instead of an 'in')? That could have been his read in the 3rd still you posted for this play.
Sure, since we don't know if there was a route called or if it was a sight adjustment. Goff threw it pretty quickly, seeing the off coverage. But and out can be picked off just as easily as an in cutting route. In fact, in a way an in cut allows the WR's body to protect from being picked, that is a CB cannot go through the WR's body. On an out there isn't that issue.
So, sure. But check the film and see what you think as to when Goff makes the read. I think Collinsworth likely had it right, but sure, he could have been wrong in this case. Since Watkins is new to the team, the reads could possibly be different than he's used to, but also they could be the same and being a vet he made the right read and Qb didn't. Or they both made right read and QB missed throw.
But also, if he takes his time there is a decent chunk play on the backside.
