merlin, agree and sorta disagree.
IMHO, the dysfunction with Snisher wasn't that they "weren't on the same page". On the contrary-- I think Snead and Fisher WERE on the same page. they were just on the WRONG page, together. And a I blame Fisher for that, not Snead. Fisher had a vision for the team, and Snead was trying to draft to fulfill Fisher's vision.
For example, regarding Tavon: I think that Fisher was pumped to draft Tavon. In Fisher's mind, Tavon was the "home run hitter" that would be the complement to his ground and pound style of offense. In Fisher's mind, Tavon could be the lighting to complement the thunder of a power back. Fisher also hoped Tavon would be the deep threat WR that could burn defenses that were overcommitted to stopping the run. (Didn't work out like that of course, but that was the plan).
My point is-- Snead's successes and failures were always consistent with trying to find players that would fulfill the vision of the head coach. IMHO, Snead is a reasonably good judge of talent (more hits than misses) and TERRIFIC at negotiating trades.
IMHO, Snead is an above-average GM who works hard to fulfill his HC's vision. But Fisher's vision was outdated, and McVay's is cutting edge.
