I mean some GMs draft the team and control the vision of what they want the team to be. Les isn't that kind of GM. He's a complimentary guy who will adjust his staff to focus on what you want as the head coach.
With Fisher I think there was a disconnect, too, an issue in defining exactly what he and his staff wanted. Drafting guys like Tavon, and Pead, in an offense that Fish said would line up and you knew what was coming so stop it. The whole thing just wasn't on the same page and that's where all the dysfunction originated IMO.
This last offseason FA period and draft the entire organization was on one sheet of music. Les called the draft a "testament to Sean and his staff." So IMO they brought in a head coach and staff who are capable of delineating what they want to a level of detail Les needed. Thus we saw in FA and the draft the addition of good team guys with hands, route running, etc. They did a great job of working together and supplementing this team with guys who fit.
Now defense was overlooked a little I think. But I'm willing to wait and see how this thing goes as Wade makes his adjustments. Regardless, though, it's pretty clear that Les is now in the type of role he was meant for, as a supplementary GM who is a very astute "lead scout."
Really like where this organization is right now. We are primed for a long run of success, or so I hope.
