First, I am thrilled with the win. I enjoyed the offense again last night, something I haven't said in 4 years.
Now back to my concerns:
1. Defense - what does a good running game do? Sets up the pass. If the Rams can't figure out how to stop the run, it could get ugly against a team with a real QB. I have never been a big fan of the LBers and Tree and Barron are liabilities in both the run game and covering RBs out of the backfield. I need to see a better effort from Tru for 17 mil.
2. Special teams - Not as concerned with them then the defense, but what I saw last night was 2 WRs in Cooper and TA trying too hard. They both know they sit behind Watkins, Woods, Kupp, Everett and Gurley as wr targets for Goff, so they need to make a splash on STs. Just do your job before you don't have one.
3. Offense - I still want to see a more consistent running game, but Gurley looked more patient last night. I still have concerns about Sully's health as well.
Not to be all negative on the bit, some things I really liked:
offense - I don't know if the 9ers took away Kupp, but take away 1 and 2 others rise up like Woods and Watkins. Between Gurley, Everett, Kupp, Woods and Watkins its going to be hard for a defense to take away everyone in the passing game. Its this reason that I think as long as Goff keeps playing well, this team will be in the majority of their games.
ST - No one is talking about the Leg, good, no one should be talking about a kicker. Hekker is still the best in the game. Aside from 2 TOs, special teams did its job, No big returns allowed. 1 stupid penalty that kept a drive alive isn't going to happen every week.
defense - 2 ST turnovers and 1 ST penalty lead to three scores. 2 on really short fields. I thought the front 3 played much better and there was a Barwin sighting. I am hoping the NFL gets their court ruling upheld so Elliot is gone before the Cowpokes game.
