1. They had some injuries that exposed their lack of depth. The secondary, when healthy is a really good one. When it isn't healthy, it gets picked on.
2. Really really unusual circumstances that the special teams put the DEF into at the end of the game. We were up by 15. Say it with me ... 15. Then the offense never got on the field again as the Niners went for three straight scoring chances. The fumbled KO and the recovered on-sides KO were hopefully just freaks.
With that said the on sides kick was a thing of beauty. If the guy can do that every time they should never kick deep. Perfectly executed.
Team needs to get healthy. Not just on D. Sullivan going out really hurt the OL. Its no coincident the goal line attack suffered after his injury.
