McVay has to scheme some success for Sammy down field.
He failed today because he never established the run and be it OL or Gurley I see both culpable
Gurley is a unique athlete and runner. He is not Steven Jackson and he is not Marshall Faulk. He has a burst but usually only see it in open field. We nyst figure out what type of runner that is and how to best utilize him. We may need to do like Carolina and slitt the carries to get the best out of Gurley but more than that we need establish the run. That will open things up for Sammy. We need to open up a game like Washington did and Take a deep shot to one of our Deep threat weapons. Sammy is suppose to be that elite talent.
So while McVay is tweaking things to players strengths what we have yet to fully see is Watkins and Austin and even Reynolds set loose. Once we get there we will have arrived. We see Everett now they have to teach him how to maximize big plays. That's coaching.
Gurley running out of bounds and Goff staring down Kupp is a tendency that must be broken but I did see him looking around. Putting more trust in Kupp is not necessary but Watkins and the other need to get more love and again with special sets and groupings coaches have to factor in additional key players.
This is a process.
Wade is installing a new defense around a totally different scheme and approach. Old habits die hard.
