And that he is a weapon. Of some sort.
Question: Anybody see him as a $10.5 million 5th or 6th WR, or a PR, or RB next year? Me neither.
Tavon has 15 more games to really impress the hell outta his coaches and we fans. Or else...
He's not set to make $10.5M next year. If he's producing, his salary at $8M is very palatable.
I don't view him as a WR or PR or RB and I don't think McVay views it that way either. He's a multipurpose, explosive, playmaking weapon as all three.
His value as such is greater than the sum of looking at it in such a linear fashion of the individual positions.
I do agree that he has 15 more games to impress.
He could do well this year if for no other reason than McVay would be negligent not to use him in the ways you describe.
But he could be gone next year anyway.
McVay would be crazy not to use him now as long as he has him, but that doesn;'t mean Tavon sticks around. He wasn't a McVay pick and maybe they would rather have the cap space than a multi-purpose weapon, even a very good one.
...
I don't disagree.
I'm leaning towards him being gone next year but I think it's highly contingent on how productive he is this year. If he scored 10+ TDs ala 2015, that will make it tough to cut him just to save $8M.
