And it's a legit debate.
Not so sure that I agree here.
The two things that we seem to know are that: 1) Donald will be the highest-paid defender; and, 2) contracts typically go up over the years.
So, what is Donald looking to accomplish?
To be the highest paid defender for the rest of his career? But that would seem to violate the understanding that contracts typically go up over the years. That doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense. Whether he's the highest paid by a dollar or $5M, that title will likely go to the next player who exercises a higher level of leverage than what Donald currently possesses. He surely knows this.
I suspect the real debate is over the guaranteed $ and how quickly he can obtain it.
