L.A.Rams
During 50 years of following the Rams, I have had a pretty good track record of objectively evaluating QBs on the basis of their performance on the field, which is of course all that a fan has to go by. I have now seen enough of Goff. He can't play.
WOW! I'm not so sure, granted the two mistakes are on him, but he has showcased growth over last year and before the fumble, led a very good drive even navigated well in the pocket under duress. I do wonder if Goff was from Pennsylvania for example and played at Pittsburgh, would the Rams still have drafted him? But you should know that following football this long that many Quarterbacks have looked bad and came to be very good Quarterbacks, Jim Plunkett, Rich Gannon, Steve Young & Doug Williams to post a few.
Your point about where Goff is and isn't from is very valid imo. For example, would they have drafted him if he was from North Dakota? (Too soon?).
That said, I have never been a fan of using the comparisons like "he sucked and ended up in the HOF so obviously our guy sucking shows he's headed to Canton too.." Just like early success (see RG3, Kap, VY and others) means squat when put up against another who has had early success.
We all have our own views, criteria and above all "hopes" for players we gravitate too and it's hard and/or next to impossible to change peoples minds once they dig in.
For me I know what I like and don't like in a QB and its still too early for final conclusions with Goff.
I said in the game forum last night I liked him coming off his first read and finding Woods in stride on drive 1. I am more than a little concerned that both his PS sacks were from the front side and he felt neither yet admits to feeling it from his back side on the pick last night?
Jury still in deliberations for me...
R.I.P. Nelson aka TonyHunter87 1971 - 2017 far too soon..
Your last words to me: "Your a great guy RFIP. I was very sad when you left the board, and your son, but was glad to see you back. Take care my friend, may God be by your side." 09/09/2017 12:58AM
No Nelson, you were a far better man than I, and I am sure an awesome husband and father as well. I will miss you my friend. -RFIP
