Donald is either playing this year or the next. He has to play one of them to even reach free agency.
I'm doubting that he wants to go an entire season without getting paid.
Question: If he does not play at all this season. Then he should have to play next season for paltry 1.8 million. Correct? He does not get the $8m that he would get if he played both years. He could be scared of CTE and thinking about hanging it up anyway.
That's a good question. I don't know the answer to this because I haven't fully read his contract or the CBA.
If I had to guess, I would say that if he returned next year, it would be at the $6 mil. plus, 2018 salary in his contract.
The reason for this guess is because the CBA and his contract have penalties written in for sitting out this year. If he willingly pays those consequences, it would seem inequitable to make him in essence repeat this year.
But to really know, we'd have to read the contracts...
