Very true!! Also. No Script is a great Firefox extension that blocks all scripts from running unless you allow them.
I use all three. And Winpatrol. I also get the Norton suite for free from my Internet provider.
But none of those precautions are gonna help if you go to the wrong sites and click the wrong things. Trust me. I did Internet tech support for 15 years, and things have progressed on the Dark Side a lot more since then. Black hat guys are even screwing with SSL sites, with a simple tweak like using different scripts for the URLs. So you think you've arrived at your bank, but you've really gone to a server in Russia. This also goes for clicking on stuff in Twitter.
