Fisher's demise brought end to Cunningham's time with Rams

By Jim Thomas

BOURBONNAIS, ILL. • Benny Cunningham always was a Jeff Fisher guy, so when Fisher got fired near the end of the 2016 season, Cunningham sensed his time may be over with the Rams.

That proved to be the case. The Rams showed little-to-no interest in re-signing Cunningham after his original NFL contract expired, but he landed on his feet in Chicago with the Bears.

"I don't really know what the talks were as far as like within the (Rams) organization," Cunningham said. "But as far as them reaching out to my agent, there was pretty much no talking."

See you later, and thanks for playing.

Cunningham's resumé as a productive role player was substantial enough to result in free-agent trips to the New York Jets, Chicago, and Detroit. He ended up signing a one-year, $885,000 minimum salary deal with the Bears on March 22.
