I'm not disputing some of the negatives. He did look like a rookie some times. He did have poor plays. I've seen Rogers and Brady take their eyes off the downfield and look at the rush if they're getting constant pressure (but both have the moxy of a vet to simply throw the ball the away).
But Cossel's comment about not being tough? C'mon. He was under the gun on most passing attempts and never did a dive or start prancing around.
But nobody can make a silk purse out of sow's ear, and that is what ANY Rams QB was being asked to do.
Asking a 21 year old Air Raid QB to do it, and then for fans to expect some other outcome, is not reasonable.
Might Wentz have done better for the Rams? Probably. Why? Because he was more physically mature, operated more under center, and he could have run for some yards and made some plays as a result. But it would have been his legs and not his arm that would have made the difference and that doesn't usually last very long in this league.
But Goff can't block for himself, he can't run routes and catch the ball; he can't call the plays or design the offense. And, he simply was not ready physically or mentally......and especially not on a bad offense.
I don't think I'm seeing him through 1 game or through rose colored glasses. I think I'm trying to see Goff in context and then project his physical talent based on a somewhat typical development slope based on competent coaching and a competent supporting cast.
Neither Tom Brady nor Aaron Rogers would be spoken of as they are if they were developed on a bad team. Not that I'm comparing Goff to them.
