While I have to admit, Gurley seemed to missed the opportunities that were there, as few as there were, and didn't appear to be the same back, I go back to his first 4 games and believe that the cause of the drop off was Fisher's offense. The structure, the preparation, the lack of spacing, the fundamental, the predictability and so forth
Unless there is an unreported health issue/injury, which I grant is possible, you don't go to tearing up the league for 4 games, NOT 1, but 4, to having a drop off so extreme.
My theory is opposing teams figured out to load up against him. Fisher was stubborn and didn't get the right offensive adjustments and there was no space. After getting hit over and over behind the line of scrimmage, Gurley eventually succumbed to "battered running back syndrome", lost his field vision and started preparing for taking the hits, and got attacked by the defense instead of him attacking the defense.
So, we will disagree. I just can't buy that a guy can be so dominating in 4 games and than drop off in the same season and think it has anything to do with how he worked out. To far stretched, that a guy can look like one of the best athletes in the sport for 4 weeks and than all of a sudden drop like a rock.
Here are the numbers
1) 146
2) 159
3) 128
4) 133
5) 89
and than other teams said enough is enough, lets see if Fisher adjusts
6) 45
7) 66
8) 19
9) 41
10) 140
11) 48
12) 85
