I mean there are several camps on the issue but Football IQ questions from most fans that have no clue what that means or how you translate that is just simply not going to prove much as Coaching, System and Personnel are just some of the more obvious questions to address.
To me the Pink elephant in the room has to do with history and evidence suggesting that QBs thought to be very smart and sharp have failed yet some have made good coaches and and some have succeeded despite not being considered the sharpest tools in the shed. Some successful QBs had immediate impact while others were deemed better off riding the pine before being allowed to take over the reigns. If half season was all that was needed to determine success then we would not have much to hash thru. We have seen some awful and uneven play from super star QBs to start their careers as rookies and their later success is cemented and associated with their early experience. Did they manage to steal their Football IQ from someone else or was it a learning process?
Bottom line is we are impatient. Some of us are caught up with the enumerable host of pundits and opinionated talking heads and fans who once rolled with history or were more thoughtful prior to declaring bust etc. It used to be only scouts and coaches and GMs had these debates. "football IQ". What does it mean when a Wilson, Brady and Montana are not even taken in the first 2 rounds? I think it takes some football IQ to know football IQ and we can all take it for what it is worth.
The pressure of today's CBA does not get to define developmental process. The Colleges bare responsibility and the NFL teams drafting need to also take accountability. The latter more so.
Goff's career will not be settled as simply as many would like. We will have to watch, wait, and see.
I really am not worried one way or the other at this point. The reason is we have been failing far too long for me to hitch all our success on Goff. He has a clear mandate to succeed and if he fails there will be the next guy.
Now we have a new HC green as emeralds. He looks to have potential but it will be proven not just by him but by the success of the organization. Wins and losses will come as a team
I enjoy reading the stuff but until the playing starts for me this all is getting old and just filling time.
