I guess it was looked by Sean as a deserved rinse and. In doing the water board on Williams and the Rams he is trying to separate himself in the Saints fans, league and anybody who cares opinions also.
It's save face move outwardly and maybe some kind of internal penatence from Payton as if beating a werewolf icon to a pulp he helped create somehow cleanses him.
He's also carrying anger partly because Sharp cookies just won't agree he was totally innocent....
Maybe he's even more guilty.
