(
believe being the operative word. This is an opinion. But a strong opinion, not merely a hope).
The Rams have themselves a great, young coach. And we fans are going to have a fun, exciting,
winning ride with this guy.
It's going to be a new Rams era under Sean McVay. I didn't say that about the last three guys, because they didn't impress me the way Sean has.
He's got bloodlines in football. He knows the game, and the league, and the people.
He's been a "coach" and a football thinker since he was playing high school QB.
His rise through the NFL ranks has been meteoric.
Yes, he's got energy and enthusiasm, but I don't hang my hat on those attributes. It's the
way that those fuel his drive for excellence, and his determination. No one on the team is going to outwork this guy, or fail to respect him.
He's driven and knowledgeable, but not stubborn.
Listening to interviews, he's careful about what he says, but I cannot detect any BS factor. That's important to me not just because I don't like being BS'd, but because it demonstrates self-awareness and honest analytical skills. He likes his players, but is not sentimental or starry-eyed about them. He will make rational, not emotional decisions for the team without losing their loyalty.
Two other factors: He will get time from SK, and he's got a former HC on the team as a mentor.
The presence of Phillips on the coaching staff, and McVay's willingness to take advice, means he will get through some of the early bumps as a first time HC relatively unscathed.
Kroenke has shown that he is patient to a fault with his coaches. In this case, that's to fans' benefit, because it means McVay will not get an early hook if things don't take off from the start (I think they will, anyway).
I believe there is untapped offensive talent on this team. The cupboard is not bare, the cook was just horrible with some decent ingredients.
I actually have more confidence that McVay is IT, then I do about Goff. And I like Goff.
But with or without Goff, McVay is going to succeed and bring us winning Rams football.
I am stoked about this guy and the future success he will bring to the Rams!
