I've always been a big fan of 'back up QB's', (I remember really liking Munson)... AND.. to point, I've always thought they have gotten the short straw. I think more than most I also think team's need a quality backup QB... not just an 'emergency use only'. Granted, that ain't easy these days.
Backup QB's often come into the game when all else is going awry and often VERY awry... nothing is working, not just the starting QB, (think of how often we hear "maybe he can spark the team"
. They are tossed into a game in difficult circumstances. Very seldom do I see fans OR media types allow for this. If the backup fails it's nearly always his fault... and the reason he had to come into the game in the first place is quickly forgotten.

I might add btw that not only does the back-up come in when the cows have already run off, the tornado is on its way, and the horses are all spooked and jittery, BUT, he doesn't get the reps in practice time either.
