1) Too much of a project - Can't take an asset like 2nd pick in the draft and wait for years for a return. Need somebody that is polished and ready to play at a high level day 1
2) Need to be a playmaker position at #2. At #2, if he isn't the 2nd coming of Orlando Pace, you better get somebody who touches the ball or rushes the passer. A play maker that can change the game momentum on a dime.
The logic of that pick was just a head scratcher. The Rams could have doubled down and traded down again and received a more polished offensive lineman lower in the first round, plus extra picks, or better yet, A PLAYMAKER.
The Pick never made sense and even if Robinson turned out to be a good player, it still is the wrong move at the #2 slot (UNLESS HE WAS the 2nd coming of Orlando Pace) I wouldn't be too worked up if it was a mid to late round pick and most of the top playmakers were off the board anyway, but number 2 was in excusable and other than Fisher's cave man offense, was the biggest reason for the Rams failures these past couple of years. That asset should have been used to upgrade the team.
Many people favored the pick, 81. Including yours truly. So please don't pretend that the pick made no sense. That's silly.
I would even say that GRob was the majority favorite predraft in most mocks.
Hindsight tells us that he was a poor choice at #2 overall. I remember jemach objecting at the time, but not you. I know you are heavily biased toward O players, so maybe you were a Watkins guy? How has he worked out for the Bills, btw? See my point?
Hindsight drafting is easy. In a do over we would take Mack at #2 and still take Donald at #13 (if he was still there).
Win some, lose some. We got a 3 year starter in GRob and a likely future HOF'er in Donald in that 1st round. They swung for the fences while seeking 2 HOF players and they look like they may have gotten one. I'll take it.
