As a 10 year old (1980) my parents allowed me to miss school to watch the draft Tuesday morning starting at 5 AM on the West Coast on ESPN. It Started a tradition of missing Tuesday school each year for the draft.
The show was straight football, for junkies. I think they were running out of the Marriott Marquis Hotel in NY.
I dreamed of being one of the hard-cores attending over the years but that interest waned after it became a mainstream event and after that debacle I saw over the weekend, I truly lost any interest in attending
