Staying consistent. OC is a top need and priority.
It's time for this team to stop arbitrarily "shooting for the moon" and start applying sound analysis and decision making that can actually get them there.
Two seperate things can be true simultaneously, 9er8er.
Getting a C in this draft is a top need and priority. Yup. A true statement there.
Taking other position players with our top 2-4 picks because they have greater talent and/or have talent that can't be found as late as a quality C can is also a legit strategy. Shooting for the moon in that sense is not reckless or overly risky.
The above two concepts are not mutually exclusive.
Taking a higher rated player that somehow falls constitutes perfectly "sound analysis and decision making" (your words), if you ask me. Take the player with the obviously higher ceiling.
In fact, to reach for a C at either #37 or #69 when better players (playmakers) are sitting there would be criminal negligence. Sullivan plus a drafted C in the late 4th or early 5th in this draft is not only doable, but smart strategy.
Rambill just posted an old Drew Boylehart list of 25 draft rules that covers several of the points that we're now discussing. You should read it. Lots of wisdom in them, trust me. You are proposing that the Rams violate several of them.
As an aside. One reason that some might think that you're inconsistent is the fact that you've been all over the board regarding Jared Goff. From last year's cheerleading to this year's slamming. Whatever happened to the 3 year rookie rule, especially when Goff was thrown into the Fisher fubar of an O? Some might think that would be considered inconsistent. Or maybe fickle is more appropriate?
