I think there are a lot of factors in determining if he's worth it at 37. Like how the top 36 shakes out. To me it's more about what he CAN do vs holes in his game. If he can be a Jordan Reed then his lack of blocking ability right now doesn't concern me. Maybe that comes later, maybe not. But it seems to me at least as a possibility that he and Higbee could create some matchup issues. The Rams need more passing game weapons. He could be a good option. Bring Harkey in the game on short yardage and goal line. McVay also used a lot of three TEs in DC so there's also that.
If you add together the splits for Kelley, Jones, Thompson rushing and Cousins passing, you can get a fairly decent idea about the percentage they ran 2 and 3 TE sets.
Kelly--168 total, 2 TEs = 48, 3+ TEs = 31
Jones--99 total, 2 TEs = 35, 3+ TEs = 26
Thompson--68 total, 2 TEs = 11
Cousins---passing 606 total, 2 TEs = 86, 3+ TEs = 20
rushing 34 total, 2 TEs = 2, 3+ TEs = 18
Combined--975 plays, 2 TEs = 173 (17.7%), 3+ TEs = 106 (10.9%)
(Officially Washington had 1009 offensive plays btw so 975 is close enough).Out of 975 plays 2 TE + 3+TE sets = 279 or 28.6%.
That strikes me as being fairly high.
