To me, Joyner's moxy, instincts, sure tackling, range, and ball hawking make for the perfect fit for the FS. Shoot; guy could be All-Pro there if they'd just put him there and leave him where he doesn't have to contend with big-boy traffic. In FS-ville, he can roam and make plays, which is what he's always done best.

Alexander was pretty good at safety for Williams.

I am not sure how Phillips uses the FS. But either way, Wms didn't use the FS as a roving center-fielder, which is what you are describing there.

And the nickel safety spot was a big deal to Williams. Not an afterthought. So Joyner was on the field a lot either way. In fact, from what I read, with Phillips, in nickel packages, Joyner will move back to being the nickel safety. Not sure who comes in as the FS in those situations.
