Alexander was pretty good at safety for Williams.
I am not sure how Phillips uses the FS. But either way, Wms didn't use the FS as a roving center-fielder, which is what you are describing there.
And the nickel safety spot was a big deal to Williams. Not an afterthought. So Joyner was on the field a lot either way. In fact, from what I read, with Phillips, in nickel packages, Joyner will move back to being the nickel safety. Not sure who comes in as the FS in those situations.
