I don’t believe it was only the ability to draft. When you look at their success rate on defensive players, nearly all of them contributed in some manner.
It’s almost the complete opposite on offense. To me that speaks of something larger than the ability to identify talent. It speaks of an inability to maximize talent on the offensive end. IOW, a coaching failure. It’s an inability to develop them or to put them in position to succeed.
It doesn’t seem possible to bat 100% on D picks and 0% on O draftees. There is more going on.
Now you've done it, dz!
Sure hope zn doesn't see this post. Lol.
He’s typing a response as we speak. LOL.
But this idea of an inability to maximize talent on the offensive end is not just something some fans came up with. The sentiment is shared by none other than Kevin Demoff.
In fact, the phrase “maximize talent” I stole from him. He stated that in an interview right after Fisher was fired and while Snead was on the hot seat. The fact that they fired Fisher and kept Snead is very telling.
It’s just interesting that when Fisher has a competent defensive staff, the talent looks good on that end. For the disparity in results to be so lopsided on D vs. O simply screams, “this is much more than a talent issue!”
They're ain't many Bill Belichicks out there so for the most part talent makes coaches despite any notion to the contrary!
Coaching can help maximize talent but you ain't making chicken salad outta chicken you know what!
There have been major holes in each of the o players games.
Posters talk about the lack of coaching talent that Goff received, well somebody tell me how many qb's from air raid offenses have come right into the league and lit it up?
I'll wait......
Best,
