The offense was simply a disaster no matter who was at QB.
Fisher never, in the years he was here, fielded even a competent NFL offense.
Can you imagine Matt Ryan under the Fisher regime?
Yes, they reached for Goff. I thought way too far.
But that's the past. The question is can Goff become a good to very good NFL QB. With Jeff Fisher and the Kindergarten Kops offense he brought, there is no way to judge Goff at this point other than by almost the same way he had to be judged coming out of college: size, smarts, arm, demeanor, mental toughness.
I think he is a lot like Bradford. Bradford was ruined by a lousy offense around him, the pounding he took and the injuries he endured. He was never going to be Tom Brady. But he could have been an upper 10 QB.
I think Goff is no worse than having Sam's potential. Fortunately, with all the pounding and dysfunction, he came out of the season healthy. And clearly McVay understands that the Oline is priority number one. Goff has to be reasonably protected or it will ruin whatever chance Goff has to succeed.
I believe Goff will do much better this year and there will be a sense of relief. And from what I see he has a chance to be a good to very good QB.
Will he rise to that? We'll see.
