Barwin is coming off of two down years in a row and a position change last year. A one year deal is a "prove it" contract that could lead to a bigger payday next year if he bounces back in a familiar role in the D.
The Rams don't have any long term risk in the event that he's run out of gas. If he still has juice left, they get production this year and a chance at an extension. If no extension, then a comp pick in 2019.
