That is the entire issue. They have been trying for 2 years to get him signed long term.
Why would he sign somewhere else for the same or less than the Rams would pay him?
Because he will run into the reality that his perceived worth greatly exceeds his real market value, Rock.
His real market value tops out at around $12-13 million per. No team will agree to overpay him. Not this year. Not next year, either.
Now, he can choose to accept that fact and sign this year at his true worth, or he can run smack dab into that wall next year. Meanwhile, he foregoes the guaranteed money and long term contract security as he tries to avoid a catastrophic injury while he holds out for the moon.
