Are you saying that Barron would be used the same way inside in Wade's defense as he was in Williams defense?
That keeps it fairly simple.
First, we don't know what Phillips has planned. But, I have speculated since Jan 12 that Barron would be penciled in as the Mo. And in a 4-3 defense and a 3-4 defense that is a one-gap defense like Phillips, then in certain times they would be the same. The reason is in WILL in a 4-3 if it is stacked puts Barron in same spot as a 3-4 ILBer in Phillips's scheme,
But, Rams used nickel more often than their 4-3. And in nickle Barron and AO are both ILBers. There are different names or roles, but they are part of the 6-man front and sometimes the nickel...
Here is an example of the Rams running a 4-3 but with Joyner, our nickel in the SAM position and it failed
But, where Barron is aligned is similar to a where he'd be if Hayes would be in a 2-point stance. Barron is up one level but head-up on a tackle. In a 3-4 it may put him head-up on guard on second level.
It's not a simple thing, it's not high school and Williams and Phillips may have different philosophies when it comes to what Williams calls "mythical gaps" Phillips may want to leverage blocks away from ball, Williams didn't want to leverage blocks away from ball if he didn't want to, which is why Williams gets criticized for not always having a sound defense.
The point, though, is Buchanon for AZ plays a similar spot as what I projected Barron as playing in the new scheme. And Barron has shown that he can be good. But I also feel like he slumped in 2016. THat's my view.
