I'm following you with one tweak.
I'm ok with over paying him slightly (av/yr at maybe tradition rate seems right in ballpark) with a multiple year deal,
Maybe 9~10 million a year over 3-4 years rather than the franchise tag amount of 16 would be mutually fair.
In my estimate he is not worth another tag year based on the play and a 2Nd top tag year is more likely to lead to a season of strife in cap issues teamwise and poor faith bargaining maybe from his side during any negotiations thru next feb.
If they can't come to a long term or at least a 2 year deal let him walk.
I'm sorry he's apparently not a top echelon CB. He can be very good for a stretch and does make plays but he also has injury issues as well as lapses in play.
They have to consider being moderate with his number as far as saying a no to a repeat franchise tag.
Ok to be a bit liberal with a long term deal however but I'd even give that grudgingly: ).
