However...
There IS some point beyond which they should not go, don't you think?
Yes, but I'm not thinking that his performance this year will merit a 15 million a year deal. He didn't make the pro bowl or anything. He's not rated in the top 25 free agents. Not sure where that price point is, but it's gotta be somewhere short of another tag, imo?
Maybe even several million short?
My guess would be somewhere in the 5 years 60 million dollar range, if it's back ended. maybe less if more money is guaranteed. I would go for 5 years 50 million with 30 guaranteed because I trust his play.Put another way, TruJo is a "strong want", but not quite a "must have"?
Honestly, it's a must have, for me. I can remember 3-4 times big plays were had on his side of the field last year, and I have a running tally of everyone on the other side getting beaten for play after play. Besides Donald, he's my most important player on the D. And NOT having him I firmly believe will hamper our defense and damage our drafting abilities for years. I know it seems like I am placing a huge emphasis on him ... and that's the absolute truth. If we have one strong CB, we can afford to keep spinning till we find another one in the draft. If we make it a mandatory need, and we can;t fill EITHER SIDE? Donald and Quinn won;t matter, because the QB will be throwing to open WRs. It will weaken our entire defense. As you yourself have pointed out, this is a strong CB draft.
Absolutely, but then we HAVE to draft one at 37, and then another in the 4th. Have to. We can replace him there in this draft I believe ... at 37. Not after. Or we can take a kid at 37, 65 or 105 that we can pair with him and maybe end up with a crazy tandem playing together.
