he was not worth $14 million ....at his price now, he is a good role player who can rush the passer and there will always be a premium on that.....I mean Eugene Sims is making more than that.
For a guy who turned 30, he declined very quickly and I get that injuries paid a big part of that
Still, he stated he understood why the Rams decided to release him.
"Bottom line is -- this is a production business. No excuses, the last two years have been (expletive). It's been painful to experience because I care deeply about my performance and my responsibility to my teammates.
Long was not worth $14 million, and he had to go. I just don't know what a guy's salary with a previous team had to do with what is happening now. He was hurt for 2 years in a row...but he was healthy this year and did pretty well.
In fact, it was not his fault the rookie pay scale was out of whack, he wasn;t worth what he was making in those first coupld of years, he was not really a guy all that worthy of being a #2 overall, I compared him to Patrick Kearney, but Long is better athlete, but he was a mid-1st round guy, but I am sure glad we got him rather than, say, Dorsey or Gholston, which COULD have happened.
So, just because he was overpaid back then doesn't mean he cannot play well now. I try not to get married to preconceived notions, thing can change, circumstances can change.
I never said he was worth $14 million. I just evaluate what they do, to the best of my ability
