My other biggest concern before McVay was hired was if he would have the ability/reputation/resources to pull in a competent staff that would be better than 2nd and 3rd tier level unknowns just happy to get a job/promotion.
And how would we, fans sitting on a message board, know the difference in every case?We don't know in every case who ever possibly could know? I never said I do and I've never read from anyone on this message board that said they do.Who was this obscure WR/qb coach Vermeil handed the offense over to in 99? Did you know at the time?At the time? Before he was hired? No I wasn't Redskins fan but as soon as he was hired I did all the message board dude research and there were several strong reports/intel about him on message boards and the NFL sports media that made me believe he wasn't a 2nd or 3rd tier reach.Does it count only if we know the names? It can help if their names are better known but it's not the end all be all.Or if we go by just our own criteria? For me it's many forms of criteria done by careful research and often times posted by very NFL knowledgeable message board users supported with links and other avenues of resources not everyone is privy to.For example, McVay could want an OL coach to be his OC because he knows that frequently, the OL coach is also the running game coordinator for given teams. (Hanifan played that role for Martz for example). It's possible that he wants input and/or a different voice representing that side of things in designing game plans etc and also fine-tuning the Rams running game.
I'm quite aware of your example and until you see me post something of a bad example/critique about any of the new coaches McVay brings on board this example is common sense. Now granted we don't know anything until we see how it works. That is we really won't know either way for a while. And skepticism is certainly legit (as one view among others in a healthy mix.)
Of course we won't know right away and some of the better thought of choices might end up short term and some of the lesser known ones might end up really good coaches/fits.But frankly we as fans usually don't know enough to judge some of these choices.I never said we knew enough to accurately judge all the choices but some fans (message board posters) have a very good grasp of how to research and can be accurate on several occasions when making educated guesses about a particular choice being a better fit than another. Not many but a few if you pay attention closley..
I told you to save this post... I'm just a message board dude but I said I was 99% and it turned out to be 100%

The reason I even told you to save that post was because of this post.
