what this team needs is a great coach not a great disciplinarian who quickly wears out his welcome...Harbaugh was part of the reason SF sucks now...
A strange commentary there, poplar, if you ask me.
Harbaugh was a disciplinarian? Uh uh.
And while he seemed to be a jerk on the sideline, I think even his harshest critics have to concede that he was a helluva HC. He turned Singletary's roster into a strong playoff and SB contender in his 1st season.
To blame Harbaugh for the current Niner woes seems just silly.
I will say that there is a legitimate basis for concern about the possibility that Harbaugh might wear out his welcome in 4 years.
But it should be a helluva ride, man! The GSOT was about that long and we're still smiling when we remember it all these years later. I, for one, am perfectly willing to strap on another such 4 year run. Lol.
Singletary's roster was dynamite. Harbaugh had it easy when it comes to that. He walked into a situation where they had Gore, a top OL, and a STOCKED defense. IMO any decent to good coach would have done well with that roster. It's one of the best examples I can think of of a team being set, and just adding a coach. It's the exact opposite of Seattle, where Carroll basically did not inherit anyone really (a couple of guys).
And they do say he wore out his welcome with players. They got sick of him. That's from multiple sources. It wasn't just the sideline. It as everywhere else, too. He's a college coach who is okay handling college players but not adult vets.
