I posted above "he's not good" so excuse me for 'defending' him. But I will say this. I was fine with him returning as center this year and through preseason he actually played very well. I can't point to what the problem is- part of it is still scheme I believe and the simple fact that defenses know they're running up the middle and outnumber them. With Barnes I don't think it's work ethic or preparation or focus, etc. It's just physical limitations. He knows where to go but gets beaten. The DTs/NTs he goes up against are often just better athletes/players. I saw it multiple times Sunday in Foxboro.
Maybe the bigger indictment though is Rhaney who is just not a viable alternative. I do think the Rams should draft a center in the top 3-4 rounds and ideally he'd win the job and Barnes is the top interior backup. Or perhaps move Wichmann over to center (which I thought they were going to do this summer).
