Maybe he's not going anywhere, but there are many compelling reasons he might go to the Rams if they came for him.

One thing is for sure, though. There is no evidence at all that he's better suited for the college game than the NFL game. The actual evidence is, he's very well suited for both.

Not sure about that. He reportedly burned his players out his final year in SF.

With the constant turnover of personnel in college that wouldn't be a problem.

However the record says he's pretty damned good at both levels.

That is a theory some have forwarded to explain the last 8-8 season, but it is a theory without any solid evidence behind it. A better theory is that that season went belly up with them losing 5 of their last 6 games because of injuries and the distractions caused by the very public dysfunction with Baalke and York and that drama that surrounded the team and Harbaugh and was culminating during those weeks. The 49ers did not believe that was the problem, obviously. That's not why they let him go. The Browns, who tried to trade for him, did not believe that was a problem. You don't find players or coaches on record saying that was a problem, except for former Buckeye Alex Boone, who was one of his biggest supporters.....until he left for Michigan and has not been shy about getting into the middle of controversies.

With today's CBA rules that govern how hard a coach can actually work players, it seems quite a flimsy theory that any coach can effectively burn his players out. This isn't the days where Vermeil could have the players on the practice field and work them to the bone day in and day out until they went into open revolt. I guess the best you can do is say he burned players out with....what... his high expectations?

He burns out up, not just down.
