Of course they spent some efforts on the draft and move etc but they have been in long term planning mode since 2014 according to Demoff. So it's not a big leap to assume now that they are in LA that they are really working on excecuting the long term plan.

A FO being sane or not doesn't matter and giving away premium picks and not starting a QB isn't some huge career killer. You assume they figured he would contribute this year, obviously they feel very differently.

And you hit the nail on the head, you are 100% correct. He want's fans excited for his new stadium......winning this year doesn't really do anything and well frankly winning next year won't matter much either.......... because if the team is at 10-6 in the 2018 season there will be excitement for the team and the launch of the new stadium (and probably new logo/unis) for the 2019 season that tickets will sell.

He's not in a hurry. We will have to get used to it.

It's entirely possible for the Ram brain trust to have focused on both the short and long term simultaneously last February, Les.

In fact, I'm sure that that was exactly what they did.

I think we agree that they were thinking long term in the Goff decision. No brainer.

But this isn't an either/or thing.

I think that they were also thinking that Goff would provide short term ('16 season) benefits, too. So much so that they were willing to part with 6 premium picks over 2 drafts to take him.

A sane FO doesn't do that and not expect tangible results in the first season.

Not a HC and "GM" in their final contract year.

Not an owner moving his team and wanting to see excited new fans for his $2.2 billion investment.

Nope. As George Allen famously said, "The future is now". The Rams expected Goff benefits both now and in the future. They wanted it both ways to inaugurate their first season in LA.
