And my view is he's not a receiver. Using him as one, that is as a pure receiver (or purely as a receiver) is only going to do so much.

Last year they used him perfectly. As many runs as catches. Made him a better decoy too.

So if they just added some of this year's routes to last year's multiple run/catch weapon, IMO he would be much more effective.

I won't say they used him "perfectly" last year. But you are right that trying to make him a marquee type receiver has been an utter fail. The "chuck it up" plays they've done the last three weeks have been an embarrassment to watch (he'll never thread two CBs on him and go and get the ball. Ever), and while his route running has improved, he's a snake receiver in that I always expect the drop with him. Yes, he's improved, it's still been hit and miss.

Anyway, what I was agreeing with you on was that they need to use him more creatively in the run game. As much as I love Benny, I'd like to see him in 3rd and long sets just to act as the outlet, or the decoy outlet. They "know" you aren't keeping him back there to block, but it sure would limit some of the jailbreak if he's on the field. I understand his physicality limits what you can do because he's never kept in as a blocker, but they're sure better than the "throw two yards behind the LOS and see if he can shake free" plays. They have to be creative and I'm just not seeing that level of thinking from Boras.
