He already is #2 so nothing has changed. I suggest he stated what he is allowed to say. I does not mean he is implying that being "ready" he is only capable of being #2. It is a coaching philosophy not a critical analysis. Coaches decision.
The question was not whether he was #2, which everyone knew he was....the question is if they are confident playing him in case the #2 has to play. And, Boras says yes.
Watch. When Goff is finally promoted to the #1, they will talk about him far differently. It will sound nothing like what Boras was saying here. They won't be saying mild things like yeah if something should happen and he has to go in, we're confident he can handle that. Their language will be much loftier than that. Again...just watch. It will be clear as day.
