The Carolina Panthers finally showed signs of turning their season around today, but quarterback Cam Newton wasn't happy during his postgame press conference.
Newton, who finished 14-27 for 212 yards and 43 yards rushing, took issue with a number of hits during the game against the Arizona Cardinals, and voiced his frustration with what he feels is a lack of protection from the officials and the NFL.
"It’s really taking the fun out of the game for me,” Newton said. “At times I don't even feel safe. And enough is enough. I plan on talking to commissioner (Roger) Goodell about this. And I don't know what I have to do."
The reigning NFL MVP's mood has been strangely dour this season, with his trademark smile noticeably absent throughout the majority of the season. While the Panthers' lackluster record is certainly to blame, according to Newton, the referees have also played their part.
"It’s taken fun out of the game. ... Story has been, ‘We missed that one.’ That’s horsecrap," the quarterback added.
The former No. 1 overall pick hopes to find a solution however, as he plans to bring his grievances straight to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, with what Newton described as the "breaking point" coming after a low hit from Cardinals defensive end Calais
“He could have torn my ACL,” he said. “That’s the breaking point.”
