I can believe that. They have to go 3-1 or better to still be "in the hunt" in December. At 3-1 they'd be 6-5 going into New England. So then say 6-6. They'd at least have a fighting chance coming home vs. four NFC/division teams- ATL, @SEA, home vs. SF and ARZ.
Even 2-2 the next four doesn't cut it. They'd have gone 2-4 in that 6-game stretch including DET and NYG. 5-7 after New England all but done. Stan is not going to want the last two home games to be meaningless.
Good points.
3-1 has got to be the worst case for Fisher. He may have to go 4-0, that's what I took from the Roggin discussion with VinnyB. Those last 5 games are very tough. The Rams will be underdogs in all 5 of them.
They must beat the Panthers, though. That's why he's sticking with Keenum. He has no idea what he's gonna get with Goff. Too risky for Fisher.
Realistically, it's not gonna happen for Fisher. These things almost always end with the HC getting the ax.
