Most coaches think about winning the next game. Who gives him the best chance to win the next game. Right now Fisher seems to think its Keenum. We want the coach to think about next year - but they are focused on who they are playing next. When they are really out of it - that may change.
There really is absolutely no reason to believe that sitting a qb is a better or worse mode of development than letting him take his lumps starting.
Both approaches have worked (actually mostly they both failed, if you go by the percentages. BUT just focusing on the qbs in all NFL history who DID develop into starters...both approaches to it have worked).
One idea is, you let him learn in 2 stages. Let him get over being a rookie, learn about the league, learn about physical and mental preparation. THEN get reps.
Or you say okay learn both things at the same time.
AGAIN, there is absolutely no argument that can convincingly claim one approach works better. They both work.
And IF you think you CAN win now, that's obviously another consideration.
There will always be those of us who think one approach to qb development is better. That's just the beliefs of individual posters. Objectively, both approaches can and do work.
