I have a hard time believeing this article is true. This would mean he has replaced fully McCloud and kept the FS strong---right? Rodney had instincts....like all FSs need.

HOwever, the D overall does seem much better than last year...and he and Ogletree along with the return of Quinn might be the reason why.....or is it just the return of Quinn and Tree's speed over JL's....???

I do believe he will be a very good strong safety. All these PFF numbers I am still not so sure about...

It took him long enough to learn, will we be able to resign him at a good price??

The PFF numbers are accurate. However, this is one of those cases that highlights when and how statistical metrics can’t accurately capture everything.

It’s already been reported that the number of snaps the Rams have employed the 2 deep safety look versus the single high safety has greatly increased. IIRC, it’s up to 37% this year and was much lower last year.

I think that tells us that GW is compensating for not having McLeod by keeping another safety back to help. IOW, Alexander is not being entrusted with the full range of responsibilities that McLeod had.

Personally, I believe the need to keep a 2nd safety deep more often is one of the reasons we keep getting gashed in the run game. If the RB gets past the DL, there are only 2 men instead of 3 – 2 LBs vs. 2 LBs and a SS – to stop the play.

I think in McCoy’s big run, both safety’s were very deep and nowhere to be found once AO ran himself out of the play, Barron got blocked, and Forrest couldn’t get there in time. I’m just going by memory of that particular play but in a single high safety look, there’s a good chance that big gain doesn’t happen. We have to understand any time you compensate, it exposes you somewhere else.

PFF is really good but they can only measure how a player is performing within the range of responsibility he’s been assigned.
